AI is already changing how films get made in India. Students who learn story first and AI second will be ready for it.
This guide explains what AI filmmaking is, what you will learn and where it can lead.
What is AI filmmaking?
AI filmmaking uses tools that make images, video, voice and music from text or pictures. You still plan the story, write the script and edit the film. AI helps with some of the making.
Think of AI as a new camera and a new crew. You are still the director.
Is AI really used in Indian films?
Yes. Dawn reports that Indian studios use AI for fully AI-generated mythology and fantasy content, for dubbing films into many languages, and for re-cutting older films.
The article also quotes Rahul Regulapati of Galleri5. He says AI can cut production cost to one-fifth and production time to a quarter in genres such as mythology and fantasy. That is one studio head’s claim. It is not an industry average.
The FICCI-EY 2026 report, as summarised by AnimationXpress, gives a wider view. It says AI adoption across workflows saved up to 40% of time. For rotoscoping, savings ran from about 20% on action films to 55% to 65% on sci-fi, fantasy and horror.
Is AI filmmaking free of problems?
No. Audiences can react strongly. Dawn notes the backlash when an older film was re-released with an AI-altered ending.
So learn the craft too. Good story sense, editing and sound still decide whether a film works.
What will you learn? The four modules
| Module | What it covers |
|---|---|
| 1. Foundations of Cinema and AI Pre-Production | Grammar of film, composition, story, scriptwriting, characters, AI concept art, environment design |

| 4. Post Production | Editing, cinematic editing, colour grading, motion graphics, VFX basics, AI enhancement, sound mix, a final film project |
You finish with a film you made and a showreel to show.
